DUBLINERS, JAMES JOYCE, PHOTOS BY R. BALLAGH, LIMITED EDITIONS CLUB, OUT OF SERIES, NEAR FINE. This is a scarce limited edition of this collection of stories by Irish writer James Joyce, signed in ink by Thomas Flanagan and pencil signed by illustrator Robert Ballagh on the colophon page. There were only 1000 copies printed of this fine book and this one is among the scarcest. As noted with an embossed stamp on the colophon page: This is one of 50 presentation copiesout of series which the artist reserved as personal gifts for friends and notables.

I believe that the practice is that the artist personally supervises the pulling of the plates for these special out of series copies but I have no way to confirm that and doubtless those of you who know the work of the Club will know better. This volume is bound in quarter green leather and Irish hankerchief linen, with bright gilt lettering to spine. This book contains an introduction by Thomas Flanagan and 6 photogravures by Robert Ballagh printed on handmade paper and each protected by a loose tissue guard. This edition was printed at Wild Carrot Letterpress and Heritage Printers. The text has been set in Monotype Scotch by Dan Carr and Julia Ferrarie at Golgonooza Letter Foundry. The design is by Benjamin Shiff. The photogravure plates were made by Jon Goodman, and editioned by Bruce Chandler, Peter Pettengill, Catherine Mosley and Greta Lintvedt. The paper was made at Cartiere Enrico Magnani. The green suede-lined linen slipcase shows no real wear of any kind; it measures approximately 9 ½ x 11 ¾ x 2 ¼ inches and contains 289 pages. The book is in excellent, near fine condition. As noted above, the green suede-lined linen slipcase shows no real wear of any kind. The leather spine has one tiny nick out of the leather, near the title (you will have to search to see it) and three pin-point dots further down, again barely visible. The spine seems a bit darkened, doubtless from being handled. Inside the book is unmarked and unblemished in any way and the page and plates are clean and bright. The binding is as new, sound and tight. Please see my other books on offer quite a mixed bag but hopefully appealing to some of you. Please dont hesitate to send in any questions; I will monitor closely and respond promptly.
