This title is attributed to St. John the Divine, one of the original Apostles, although its actual origin is uncertain. It was written to extol Christians to resist the Romans, even at the expense of martyrdom.
The book is illustrated by Allan Rohan Crite, who has created a rich visual interpretation. The 15 relief engravings reflect admirably and spiritually on the contents of the work. The engravings were printed by Sue Ann Evans at Evans Editions in New York City on Japanese Kitakata paper, and mounted on Magnani paper. The typographic format was created by Dan Carr, who set the text at his Galgonooaza Letter Foundry in Ashuelot, NH. He chose the "small face" 24 pt typeface.
The text pages were printed by Dan Keleher at Wild Carrot Press, Northampton, MA, on heavyweight paper hand made in Pescia, Italy by Cartiere Enrico Magnani. The edition is bound in burgundy linen by Carol Joyce of Academy Bindery, Stockton, NJ; and Dea Sosso of Light of Day Bindery and Kim O'Donnell of Garthegaat Bindery, both in Northampton.
The lovely box was produced at Portfoliobox in Providence, R. I The book was issued in 1995, and is # 24 of ONLY 300 copies, and is signed by the illustrator. It appears to be in flawless condition. The four page LEC Monthly Letter is included.
This is a large (18' x 24x 2, including box) and extremely heavy book. Though each individual engraving is not signed (just the colophon), it is like getting 15 individual prints from the author. All in all, this is a valuable addition to any lover of religious literature and of the extraordinary craftsmanship of the titles with limited numbers of the later LEC production years.
