The Man Who Planted Trees. 5 Photogravures by Martine Franck, Limited Edition, #35 of 300, Signed by Martine Franck. Measuring approximately 17" by 14", the book was bound by Carol Joyce at the Academy Bindery in Stockton, New Jersey in leather over boards made of real mulberry tree bark from Mexico.

The corners of the boards are covered with natural finish vellum that was pared thin and attached with great care, giving the corners both durability and an interesting refined appearance. The book is housed in the original black linen covered slipcase.

Illustrated with 5 photogravures by Martine Franck printed from plates made by Jon Goodman from her original negatives. The gravures were printed on mould-made Arches paper from Epinal, France. The text is printed on mould-made silk & cotton rag paper from the Magnani mills in Pescia, Italy. The book design is by Michael Bixler and was printed by Michael and Winifred Bixler at their printery in Skaneateles, New York. The typeface chosen was English Garamond No.

The text of the English translation is in 18-point roman, which is interlined with the French original in fourteen-point italic. The English is in black and the French is in red. Chapter titles are sixty-point Bembo. Laid into the book is the monthly LEC newsletter.

The book and slipcase are in FINE condition. The book has been signed by Martine Franck on the limitation page. This is a signed limited edition of "The Man Who Planted Trees" published by the Limited Edition Club in 1995 with a limitation of 300 copies this being number 35.

From the publisher: Imagine a book about a man who planted trees in an edition that itself comes from a tree, for this magnificent volume is covered with the bark of the mulberry tree. Imagine also an ancient and enchanted land in the south of France. The Vaucluse inspired Jean Giono to write this book and the renowned photographer, Martine Franck, to create five hauntingly beautiful photogravures of scenes from that magical land. Inspired by God or Pan, perhaps - Gionos hero in this story expresses humanitys ancient kinship with the earth and reverence for all living things. The original French text alternates, line by line, with the English translation.
