In the fall of 1929, George Macy launched the LIMITED EDITIONS CLUB, with the dedication to produce the great classic of antiquity and the best of modern literature in beautiful editions.

The books were edited and introduced by renowned scholars, designed by masters of the typographic arts and illustrated by many of our century's greatest artists. Strictly limited, usually from 1,500 to 2,000 numbered copies, almost all of these volumes were signed by the artist, author or designer; sometimes by all. Few publishers can boast of sustaining a pattern of excellence for over five decades. WALDEN is the best-known book by transcendentalist Henery ZDavid Thoreau, and probably the best-known and most influential American naturalist work. It continues to influence writers and evironmentalists around the world.
