FOLIO SOCIETY THE FOUR GOSPELS Limited Edition Eric Gill 2007
Folio Society Limited Edition - THE FOUR GOSPELS OF THE LORD JESUS CHRIST: According to the Authorized Version of King James I Eric Gill converted to Catholicism in 1913, and many of his most famous works were religious commissions, including the Stations of the Cross in Westminster Cathedral and his masterpiece, The Four Gospels. Created for the Golden Cockerel Press, it is an astonishingly powerful work of art. It represents a marriage of text and image that has rarely been equalled: leaves curl into the space between paragraphs, swords hang down into the margin, and symbols of the evangelists each hold up the title of their gospel. The 500 copies from the original printing are to be found in pre-eminent institutions and private collections around the world and they almost never reach the open market.

This beautiful facsimile is an opportunity to own a piece of publishing history. Limited to 2,750 hand-numbered copies.

Blocked in 24-carat gold with a design featuring Eric Gill's four symbols for Matthew, Mark, Luke and John, supporting a blind-blocked frame.
