Limited Editions Club The Jaunts and Jollities of Mr. John Jorrocks
The Jaunts and Jolllties of Mr. Surtees is the burlesque of all trials in legal history. John Jorrocks was invited and influenced by his companions to give up a hunting venture and go in for shooting. What did they manage to shoot? Nothing else but Old Tom the Hare, a much beloved playmate of Squire Cheatum's children! Cheatum's minions set out to prove that at least one inch of Mr. Jorrock's left foot was in Squire Cheatum's territory at the time of the kill.

So, who better to wage both sides of the legal arguments than Mr. The story is the sort of scene that brings to any reader a chuckle that lasts into the years after it has been read. Fortunately, it is a satire and not a compendium of annoying lawyer jokes!

The edition in our hands was printed by D. Updike at his Merrymount Press in Boston.

Bound in a dark purple cloth, especially made by the Interlaken Mills, to which a silk finish has been applied, the book features an all-over pattern stamped in gold leaf. The paper is a white but slightly off a dead white in color, with a laid in watermark in the sheet. Illustrating our book, Gordon Ross provided ten water color prints. They are excruciatingly lovely, thoroughly admirable, and completely satisfying. I like them a lot!

Under the direction of Bert C. Chambers, the ten drawings were printed by The Bartlett-Aldus Press. The illustrations were reproduced faithfully, perhaps demonstrating in this instance that machine-produced reproductions can render a complexity of color which an artist would find difficult to achieve with hand-coloring. This is number 743 of 1500, and is signed by Gordon Ross. The offer INCLUDES the elusive 1932 four page Limited Editions Club Monthly Letter. All in all, this is a beautifully made book with gorgeous illustrations complementing a very, very, funny narrative. Thank you for reading this presentation and good luck in your searches.
