Limited Editions Club the Sea Wolf

Published in 1904, the highly popular novel The Sea Wolf combines elements of naturalism and romantic adventure. The story concerns Humphrey Van Weyden, a refined castaway who is put to work on the motley schooner Ghost. Hardened by his arduous experiences at sea, Humphrey develops strength of both body and will, protecting another castaway, Maud Brewster, and facing down the increasingly deranged Larsen. This is Jack London at his best. Illustrating this classic, Fletcher Martin fashioned 12 full-color paintings, plust two double-spreads in full color, and 16 line drawings that are printed in deep sanguine.

The pictures literally seethe action and jump out of the pages, enabling me to feel the tension and splashing sea water. Our book was designed by Ernst Reichl, who chose Monotype Times Semi-bold for the type. The printing of both text and illustrations was performed by The Connecticut Printers, Inc. The paper is a nautural white, vellum finish, made specially for our edition by Strathmore Paper Company of West Springfield, Massachusetts.

The binding, in limp style, is a heavy imported Irish linen which has been silk-screened with the title on the spine and a silhouette by Fletcher Martin on the front cover. This is copy number 212 of 1500, and is signed by Fletcher Martin. The offer includes both the essential four page Limited Editions Club Monthly Letter and pre-publication announcement. This is an essential book for any serious library and a must own for LEC collectors. As it is suitable for readers of all ages, it would also make an outstanding gift for someone special.
