Vanity Fair William Thackeray 1931 ARTIST-SIGNED Limited Edition of 1500
Vanity Fair - William Thackeray; 1931 John Austen SIGNED Limited Edition of 1500. SIGNED by artist John Austen and hand-numbered 346 out of 1500.

Both volumes of this book is are in excellent gently-used condition. There are no attached bookplates or embossed seals. Sharp corners, no obvious scuffs or rubs. Also keep in mind that all of these materials are 90 years old or older and still look this good.

This was a time when readers had to cut their pages apart on the side before turning the page. That is why the pages are smooth on top and bottom but uneven/jagged on the right.

Finally, keep in mind that this book was published less than two years into the Great Depression and would certainly have been a luxury during this time. The accompanying slipcase is in very good+ condition. Photo 11 shows the only type of defect. It has 3 or 4 of these small nicks in corners and the one photographed is the largest, so it is near perfect too for being 90+ years old.

The volumes also have dust jackets. There is a very faint discoloration/stain on mid-spine of the volume 1 dust jacket. So that's it, virtually flawless books, a few very small knicks on the slipcase, and a very faint discoloration/stain on one dust jacket. In January of 2022 (when this listing went live), the alternatives of this edition of Vanity Fair available online were not even close to this good and it is probably the same now.

I flip the books, slipcase, and dust jackets around throughout the photos so that you can see all sides. And I zoom-in on any particularly inconspicuous defects (like the example of the few nicks on the slipcase) that may otherwise be difficult to see. As a result, the photographs are generally a far better description of the product's condition than my words. Please review all photos carefully before purchasing, and feel free to ask questions if the photos provided do not suffice. Please also do not hesitate to request additional photos if needed.

William Makepeace Thackeray's classic tale of class, society, and corruption, and an Amazon mini-series starring Olivia Cooke in 2018. No one is better equipped in the struggle for wealth and worldly success than the alluring and ruthless Becky Sharp, who defies her impoverished background to clamber up the class ladder. Her sentimental companion Amelia, however, longs only for caddish soldier George. As the two heroines make their way through the tawdry glamour of Regency society, battles-military and domestic-are fought, fortunes made and lost.

The one steadfast and honourable figure in this corrupt world is Dobbin with his devotion to Amelia, bringing pathos and depth to Thackeray's gloriously satirical epic of love and social adventure.
