Virgil The Aeneid the Limited Editions Club 1944 Dryden Carlotta Patrina

From the Limited Editions Club in 1944. The book was translated by John Dryden, his Virgil still remains practically without rival as the standard English translation of the greatest Roman poem; the only one that has become an English classic. The illustrations were done by Carlotta Petrina made with a lithographic pencil, for reproduction by the photogravure process.

The Photogravure and Color Company in New York used impressions to reproduce the original drawings which were made on tinted paper. Dothard designed the book, and it was printed at the press of E. Hildreth in Brattleboro, Vermont, on Original Old Style type. The paper is made completely of rags, a white sheet, beautiful, dignified and fabricated by the Worthy Paper Company.

The binding is of boards covered with tiny threads woven through the F. The title is stamped in gold. The "Cantelmo box" is covered with a maroon cloth. This is #593 of 1,100 (fewer than most LEC because of the war).

Book itself is in good condition. There is a dent/crack on the bottom edge of the spine and on the slipcase (visible in pictures) but otherwise overall in great condition the age of the book.
